Audemars Piguet jewelers wanted to give the impression that the watches from the Millenary baguette-cut diamonds collection are literally carved in diamond.
As the very first step, the master-jewelers of Le Brassus select only the purest colorless diamonds. Then, the lapidaries craft the baguette cut in order to achieve the proportions providing an ideal reflection of the light and perfect brilliance. Having finished with the polishing, they have to make sure that the stones lack any undesirable stripes or streaks.
Invisible Setting
Closed setting implies pushing back metal all around the stone, while claw setting means tiny claws holding the gemstone to the piece of jewelry. Invisible setting, most sophisticated of all, completely releases the stone from the metal. The diamonds are set side by side, and you will notice no metal showing through. This technique implies meticulous preparation of the gemstones. First, it is necessary to hollow two grooves in the lower part of the gemstone, also called the lower girdle facet. The grooves are used to press the stone into its recess, snuggled right up against the neighboring stone, with no even the tiniest gold-glimmer in sight.

To guarantee the operation accuracy, each of the stones is made according to the detailed plans born upon close cooperation between the R&D department and the gem-setting workshop.
The stones are cut to within 1/100th of a millimeter while applying state-of-the-art technologies. To make the stones for only one dial, a full month's work is required.
The invisible gem-setting technique extends over the case of the Millenary baguette-cut diamonds, including the case-band. The Audemars Piguet specialists have required the utmost of their skills to develop and patent an exclusive cut able to follow the curving shape of the flanks.
The table of these diamonds is a little convex. Large gem-stones were selected and then cut and polished in order to create a slightly rounded surface.
